私がスペイン留学を決めたのは３０歳を超えてからです。生ハムが好き、気候が好き、人の明るさが好き、ワインが好き。これが留学を決めたきっかけです。I decided to study in Spain when I was over 30 years old. I like the ham, the climate, the brightness of the people, and the wine. This is what made me decide to study abroad.
スペインに初めて着いたのは南に位置するセビリヤという都市でした。パンデミック真っただ中だったので、セビリヤ以外の街からは出てはいけない条件でした。もちろんマスクの着用も義務付けられていました。その頃日本では緊急事態宣言で海外に渡航はやめてくださいと言われていました。My first arrival in Spain was in the southern city of Seville. It was in the middle of a pandemic, so I was not allowed to leave the city except for Seville. Of course, we were also required to wear masks. At the time, Japan had declared a state of emergency and told us not to travel abroad.
もちろん親や親せきからは渡航を猛反対されましたが、私はとても頑固で融通が利かない性格だったので、そのまま出国しました。申し訳ない気持ちもありましたが、行きたいという強い意志は誰にも止められませんでした。Of course, my parents and other relatives vehemently opposed my trip, but I was very stubborn and inflexible, so I left the country as I was. I felt bad about it, but no one could stop my strong will to go.
セビリヤについて以来、パンデミックとは思えないほど人が元気で明るく、ポジティブなエネルギーを感じました。語学学校に通いながらたくさんの人との繋がりがありました。Since I arrived in Seville, I immediately noticed that people were so energetic, cheerful, and positive energies that it was hard to believe that it was a pandemic. I made many connections with many people while attending the language school.
セビリヤは徒歩で街を見れるほどアクセスが良く、大きすぎず小さすぎない街の広さが心地よかったです。そしてセビリヤの特徴はなんといってもイスラム文化とキリスト教文化が交錯する歴史的な都市なので、大聖堂など訪れた際はその不思議な空間と異次元にトリップしたような不思議な感覚を楽しめると思います。Seville was accessible enough to see the city on foot, and the size of the city, not too big and not too small, was pleasant. Seville is a historical city where Islamic and Christian cultures intersect, so when you visit the cathedral and other places, you will enjoy the mysterious space and a strange feeling as if you have tripped to another dimension.
セビリヤの街の人はたとえスペイン語が話せなくとも笑顔で陽気に迎えてくれます。失敗すらも笑いに変えてしまうくらいとても楽観的な人たちでした。穏やかな時間がゆっくりと流れていくようなそんな感じがしました。人生焦らず一歩づつ味わっていこうと。People in Seville welcome you with smiles and cheerfulness, even if you don’t speak Spanish. They were so optimistic that even their mistakes were turned into laughter. I had the feeling that time was passing by slowly and peacefully. I thought to myself, “Let’s savor life one step at a time and not rush through it.
心が疲れたら海を見に行き、海に我が身をあずけながら感傷に浸る。フラメンコ鑑賞に行き、心の涙を流すと次のステップに踏み出す勇気をもらえる。仲間と汗を流した後は、凍り付くくらい冷たいビールを飲み、乾いた喉を癒す。美しい街並みに心を奪われると、フラメンコギターのリズミカルで今にも踊りたくなるような音楽が流れてくる。When my heart is tired, I go to see the sea, and I give myself to the sea, and I am immersed in sentimentality. When I go to see flamenco and shed tears from my heart, I find the courage to take the next step. After working up a sweat with my friends, I drink a freezing cold beer to quench my dry throat. As you lose yourself in the beauty of the city, the rhythmic music of the flamenco guitar makes you want to dance at any moment.
良いことも悪いことありのまま受け入れ、肩の力を抜き、楽しいことに全力なセビリヤの人たち。この街を選んで心から本当に良かったと思える。この町は私の心の中の故郷です。Sevillians accept the good and the bad as they are, relax their shoulders, and do their best to have fun. I am truly happy that I chose this city. This town is my hometown in my heart.
